Doesn’t make sense

This album is absolutely terrible. I am a huge fan of early 70’s rock, but this is not good. The more I listen to the more I realize just how bad it is.
I Know What I Like In My Music

By who cares?????????????????????
In my love/meh relationship with Genesis, I'll put this on and at first it's ughh with that English folkie twee sound, but some melancholy bleeds in, then the ominous drone of the lawnmower song comes on, which, yes, I do like. Then the beautiful piano and melody of Firth, excellent! But before Cinema, we venture thru the Epping wood, now, that's gonna cost a star right there. Genesis, they have enough going to beguile ya, then they thrash that with some effeminate weirdness. Even weirder is that PG took none of that with him when he left. Thank goodness!
A progressive rock classic

Quirky, psychotic, cerebral and quite impressive musically, Selling England By the Pound hasn’t aged all that much since it was first released. Peter Gabriel is quite the acrobat on the microphone, Steve Hackett a guitar wizard, Phil Collins a beast on the drums, Tony Banks providing sufficient atmosphere, and Mike Rutherford rhythm. Some may prefer Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, but think this to be the stronger effort if only slightly. Whether Gabriel or Collins singing, Genesis is a very unique and singular band.
Definitely the best peter gabriel era album

One of the best progressive albums to ever come out!
Laid back Genesis

A great Genesis album, with only one weak track, More Fool Me, which I find rather dull. The rest of the songs are wonderful. It was probably their best sounding album up to that point. Great cover, too!
Absolute Classic

Many people only know the newer pop Genesis. But, this album and others around it were true epics, much different than the pop Genesis, but true classics. From beginning to end, this is just a single majestic story set to music, not a group of hit pop singles. The pinnacle of album rock.
This album is a mind blower

Amazing musicianship on all sides. I’ve listened to this album countless times and there is always so much to enjoy. Peter Gabriel is full force surreal fun to listen to as well as the rest of the band.
Get it.
It's Amazing

Cohesive, beautiful and a great listen - Early Genesis is truly art.

Absolutely outstanding album - the sheer complexity and artistry of the songwriting and playing is astonishing. My favorite song here is The Cinema Show, specifically the second half which is extended synth jam where Tony Banks (on keyboards) and Phil Colliins (on drums) tear it up. I've played the last minute or so over and over again... so good.
New Stereo Mix is fantastic!

This is better than the original mono mix, really crisp, clear, clean. A true benchmark album for any audiophile. One of the best repurchases I've made.
