This is for The Yes Album - not Going For The One. Tony Kaye is good here, but ultimately, was not the keyboardist for Yes. As for Moraz - what he wrote for Awaken on Going For The One, by his own admission, was never used by Yes. Moraz did use the work on one of his own solo albums. This is a great album. Starship Trooper is still a masterpiece - as good as anything on Fragile or Close To The Edge.

As much as Steve Howe's replacing Peter Banks began Yes's rise to masters of creative progressive rock it should be noted here that Peter Banks was summarily dismissed by Jon Anderson when Howe became available in a manner that is certainly not mirrored by his lyrics or earthmotherearth 'philosophy'. He pulled the same crap on Patrick Moraz when Rick Wakeman decided to return for the Going For the One album. Moraz never got the credit he deserved for his part of the masterpiece 'Awaken'. Peter Banks' contribution as a founding member of Yes along with his unique sound is as much a part of the band's success as anything that followed.

Excellent album I mean wow the whole thing works together very well and you really have to listen to a vinyl record for this recording because it is magically better sounding than ever. Honestly The rhythm in this album and sound achieved is I think honestly better than Fragile overall. But holy S%#t have you heard Close to the Edge!! Like F&*k me that is just too cool man lol
Holy F$!?@ !!

This album is sooooo good. But I'd have to disagree with rockstarboys review. Yes' first 5 albums are all golden classics and Tales through Tormato are classics. The Yes Album proved to be their commercial breakthrough and debut of guitarist Steve Howe!

The first great Yes album

Though the first two Yes albums have their good songs, The Yes Album was really the first great Yes record. The songwriting had improved by leaps and bounds. Steve Howe really added a lot to the group's sound and to their songs. They could not have made this album with Peter Banks. The first three songs are perfect and I have also always liked A Venture. I also like the cover for some weird reason!
The first great Yes album.

Here's where they got it almost all right. "Yours Is No Disgrace", "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change", heck, even "The Clap" are all classic Yes tracks. The only iffy track is "A Venture", but otherwise the playing is spot on, and underrated keyboard player Tony Kaye does a great job of adding color to the music. A good and almost great classic rock album.
One of the best Yes Albums

This album was the start to the classic era of Yes. It's hard to find something bad about this album. The albums opening track, Yours is No Disgrace, shows of the skill of the new guitarist Steve Howe. And his skill keeps going through the album. An absolute must listen form classic era Yes.
