  • One of the best

Focusing on “Awaken”: easily one of the best recordings of symphonic progressive rock, from any era. It “rocks”, certainly - but it also contains passages of amazing beauty, the way only Yes can. As a keyboard player, I’m naturally knocked out by Rick Wakeman’s beautiful church organ and Moog - his playing conveys a deep ethereal quality. However Steve Howe has the “last word” so to speak - truly brilliant. Chris Squire and Alan White are in there as well of course... rounding out a piece of music as near perfect as I’ve ever experienced. Jon Anderson’s final line in the song is at once haunting, and has placed itself in my mind as one of the best lyrics I’ve ever heard: “Like the time...” If you’ve never heard “Awaken” (and the rest of GFTO), hear it! If you have - hear it again. Enjoy!
