This album I first heard when it was released and have never forgotten the stories. Especially loved The Ugly One with the Jewels. It's like staying up late around a campfire listen to friends. Such a great voice against wonderfully atmospheric soundscapes.

This is one of my favorite Laurie Anderson albums. These stories are sometimes funny, sometimes touching, always otherworldly. I only wish I could have seen one of the performances from this concert.

The wonderful thing about this album is while yes each song is filled with wonderful sounds, and atmospheres, they don't dominate her speech, there are no solos, and few rhythms. they just make a subtle background for the stories. The stories are exotic, a mixture of her personal experiences, and little folktales. wonderful.

If you enjoy bizarre storytelling mixed with alien electronic harmonies, this album is for you. This is Laurie Anderson in her myriad, expressive forms, but focussed on telling stories from "The Nerve Bible," unlike other compilations focussed on songs and instrumental works. The creepy, provokative tales often come off as humor, as this live recording shows in sporadic audience responses.
