Wow. Ms. S you have touched my heart and soul so many times already....I don't know why this touched me even more in some ways. I hear a real heart exposing its honest to the very core feelings completely striped of protection. This album rings so real and organic it can only be incredible. This is a representation of heart, soul and God. Thank you for this wonderful gift you've given the world. May God's peace and love be with you always.

Barbra sings this beautiful and haunting melody in a highly personal manner. You really feel she is pleading directly to God. Without knowing the translation, anyone can hear and feel her ask God for forgiveness. The orchestration and choir add a timeless - antiquity to this traditional prayer. This is "soul music" of the first order.

This is a very touching CD. Very moving and at one point even brought on tears. To listen to such a beautiful voice is diffinately a blessing from the Heavens.

I bought this cd for my grandma in 1997 for either her birthday or Christmas. She just loved(still does) this cd. When ever I would go to her house all I would hear is this cd for about three months straight. Avinu Malkeinu is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard Barbra sing. If you are a Barbra Streisand fan I would highly recommend you purchasing this one, if you have not already.
  • Disappointing Album...

This is a disappointing album for me. I would have thought an "inspirational" album would be more inspring, but no.... pretty boring, actually. If I had the chance to purchase it again, I would not - even though I normally love Barbra's music.
  • Barbra Goes Inspirational

On this release Barbra chose songs of a somewhat inspirational nature but not too religious as to be deemed straight ahead gospel. There are such wonderful moments on this cd, a favorite of mine is "At The Same Time" complete with a choir of angelic children, "Tell Him" where Barbra plays the mother to Celine Dion's daughter is touching but amid the rumors of run away ego trips sort of mar the finished result, you can't help but feel with their over the top climax of this song they were trying to out sing each other, not to mention that the song was simply over played on radio. "If I Could" is one of my all-time favorite songs recorded by such artists as Nancy Wilson and Barbra's excellent reading deserves a place among the status as those who's readings of this song is best described as "definitive." She touchingly dedicated that song to her son Jason. "Everything Must Change" was recorded by artist's such as Quincy Jones and Randy Crawford, again this song is beautifully interpreted by Barbra, it's theme regarding social change enables Barbra to make her obligatory political statement without being preachy or overbearing.

This is the most incredible worship album that I have heard in a long time, not to mention how the chosen songs of Ms Streisand's album. It is simply perfect.
  • Higher Ground brings me way down

Perhaps the most overrated album this great singer has ever recorded. Instead of uplifting or inspirational, I find this album a little depressing - a musical reminder of our own mortality. There is not a single song on this album that is upbeat. It's hard to even imagine anyone under the age of 40 who can truly relate to these songs. Although many of these songs are "new", they feel old with the recurring themes focusing on aging and life's later stages. This is hardly a pop album. Buy it if you've recently lost a loved one and need a good cry.
