Heard several of the songs when he did npr's tiny desktop concert, and it was amazing. I'm not to crazy about the album, however, the lyrics are stunning.

If I started a band called Hand Cut Steak would it sound too much like Iron & Wine?

I have to admit, I have a taste for more electronic synthy music. I appreciate the art that is made with this medium, and he has really exemplified that with this album. I have always enjoyed Iron and Wine, but not like this. I can't stop listening to "Biting Your Tail". Lyrical genius and really grabs you with the melody and beat. This is the best album I have heard in a couple of years. I would have paid 100 times what I paid to get this album. It's that good.

I love love LOVE Iron & Wine, but part of the reason I love them is their earthy, folk tones that are highlighted by beautiful lyrics. This album is garbage. The weird thing is I love electronic bands like Phoenix and Miike Snow so I don't understand why this attempt at electronic folk went so terribly.

I was sooo excited to download this album after my bandmate hyped it up. I was jarred at how different the sound is from Iron & Wine's other offerings. I admire it - no doubt a showcase of the rich talent and sonic layers we are accustomed to, but I was hoping for more of the melancholy, droning, meditative ballads that I love so much. Enjoy the difference, y'all.

I would like to clarify one thing: Iron & Wine's music is very much Southern. Not folk, not country. Southern. While in the past, Sam Beam has played on the folky, Appalachian sound (with his own touch, naturally), this album is still very much Southern. This time, the emphasis is on the blues and R&B. This still fits with the theme, if you want to call it that. And while I always enjoy Iron & Wine, it is wonderful ambient noise with meaningful, beautiful lyrics if you're willing to pay attention. If you want Indie Pop, go somewhere else. You won't find that here. Once again, Mr. Beam, you fail to disappoint.

When i first bought this album in stores i was expecting as I'm sure many people were to hear the same Beautiful Iron and Wine that we fell in love with with albums like Around the Well and Creek Drank The Cradle. So when i heard the first track full band and electric noise combined i was shocked and a bit dissapointed. This is not what i had known Iron and Wine to be. All i was thinking was Sam WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!? However i decided to give the album a try and i'm so glad that i did. It's true at first i was unhappy but after opening up to the new direction Iron and Wine has headed i have to say that the music is still awesome, the lyrics still beatiful and the experience still 100% Iron and Wine. I still get sucked into some songs and let there beauty surround me off this album the same way i let songs like The Trapeze Swinger and Love Vigilantes wash over me a few years ago. So although it is different i still think the album is a true work of art and well worth a listen. My top 2 tracks being Walking Far From Home, Monkeys Uptown and Halfmoon. Do yourself a favor and buy this album.
