I have loved watching Iron & Wine continue to evolve and change sounds. I saw them live before this album was released, and again last year. Both shows are deeply embedded into my memory. This album is still my favorite and would recommend anyone pick this up.

This album means so much to me. It gives you emotions you didn't even know existed. The music alone (not the lyrics) can make you cry, just because if it's truth and beauty. Just buy this album and listen to it as you take a walk at night. It will be one the most amazing experiences of your life. And it never gets old. I can't describe it in words. You'll just have to see for yourself.

I LOVE Love love Iron & Wine, but this album doesn't really give a wide range of their talent. The songs are good, but they all seem to sound the same after a few listenings. Promising Light and Upwards Over the Mountain are especially nice, as is Lion's Mane, but the latter of which seems to be overly touted by most people. Overall, I was less crazy about it than Woman King or Around the Well, but what's good on it is very good (and what's bad on it is mediocre.)

I Can Not get enough Of This Album Iron & Wine Have Forever Been One Of My Favorite Bands. This Album Is Simply Amazing It has That certain Rawness that Makes Iron & Wine certainly Stand Out ( Atleast To me ) And Leaves me Craving For More And more. This Album is Full Of Goodies Like Upward Over The Mountain, Lions Man, And Faded From Winter.

I'm shocked at how nostalgic Beam's music can be, especially when he paints such specific images ("found your mittens behind a box of pictures, you would wear them before I brewed the tea"). Yet I find myself transported to such a perfect place. I can not say how much I love this album or how much it means to me. It evokes such empathy and a sense of suffering, that I'm so often moved to tears when I play it. I never get bogged down thinking of favorite songs, but these songs, all of them alone and together, are so important. This album is as important as any I have in my collection. I put it up there with the greats of other genres: Sgt. Peppers, Tommy, The Wall, Harvest, Highway 61...

I could listen to this album all day. The guitar, vocals, and lyrics are in perfect balance, and the imperfect sound quality - there's a slight hiss in the background of each track - just makes the songs seem more intimate. "Bird Stealing Bread" and "Muddy Hymnal" are the standout tracks for me, but there really isn't a weak spot on the album.
  • Possibly my Favourite Album

I was raised on an interesting musical diet, with a little blues, a little rock, a little country, some singer-songwriter material, bluegrass, and Irish folk. That being said, Iron & Wine sits on the line between a lot of these. His lyrics are great. His playing is folkish and bluesy. And his harmonies are soothing and earthy. "The Lion's Mane" made me cry when I first heard it, and the rest of the album has never disappointed me. I'm also very from of "Bird Stealing Bread" and "Upward Over the Mountain." If you like this, I also recomment The Sea and the Rhythm EP, which is several songs from the same take that weren't cut onto the album.
