This is not the mudvayne I know and love. Past albums like L.D.50 and lost and found were amazing in my opinion. I only like 1 song off this album and that is something I hope to never have to say again about mudvayne

This is by far the very best Mudvayne album! "Do What You Do" and "Scarlet Letters" are my favorite songs from this album.
  • Are the listeners confused? Or is Mudvayne confused?

It's becoming difficult to tell what Mudvayne thinks of their music. Every album has been different than the last. The End of All Things to Come, and Lost and Found are proof that Mudvayne is a talented band with a nac for writing metal music, but on here, there is no way to avoid saying that Mudvayne has put out a bad album, The New Game. Mudvayne's debut, L.D. 50, wasn't the best work, a bit messy and out of control at times, but it had some well-done songs, psychotic atmosphere, and great flavor. Mudvayne's second official record, The End of All Things To Come, was a Nu-metal masterpiece, in that it was one of the most versatile, yet well-binded metal albums released. Lost and Found showed Mudvayne heading in a more narrow direction, but the band was still growing musically. On The New Game, it seems like Mudvayne doesn't like their music, and they change it into a more rock and roll metal album, but it turns out short, bad, and not worth the listen. Oh yes the versatility of The End of All Things was its strong suit, but here it isn't a binded blend, it is a collage of crap. Mudvayne is a good band, so this is just unacceptable. Have it Your Way, The Hate in Me, and We the People, all politically ranting songs, all withold some of Mudvayne's worst lyrics, and monotonous riffs, which bakes them into 3 incredibly boring tracks. A Cinderella story, potentially the worst Mudvayne track ever written, is nearly emo-core, and should not have been placed on the album at all. Scarlet letters, though catchy musically, is not a traditional Mudvayne song, and Chad Gray's lyrical composition is unbelievably weak. Dull Boy is an average track, with lyrics that lack any fun. The track is also different from the rest of the album in every possible way, and is a very unpleasant surprise. Though Fish out Of Water is a decent gem, with Mudvayne putting out a new side with the same elements, and a New Game is one of the hardest hitting new Mudvayne kicks heard in a while, The New Game is a boring piece of garbage that Mudvayne is much better than. It does however manage to show how damn good the band's past three albums were.
  • ...bring back the old game

Here's the deal...if you are new to Mudvayne and you like this album, don't bother buying their old stuff. Their bold and catchy style on "The End Of All Things To Come" and "L.D. 50" contained great hair-raising vocals, complex bass / drum interactions, and decemt guitar on every song. The music and vocals drew you in, and you craved to listen to it time after time. Now, fast forward to the New Game. The music is decent but a bit boring. I'm not challenged to listen to it, and for me personally this was what I craved from them. I thought they were one of the lucky ones, to gain popularity by not selling out. Guess i was wrong. I bet the next CD willl be a bit of the same we hear on this New Game. By all the positive reviews i see on I-tunes, I don't understand. Am I alone in this opinion? I think if more of us old-scholol listeners would speak up, we could turn the ship back around. I know these guys have great talent. Not anybody can put out such great music. Good luck to them and us listeners.

Minus the face paint, this album brings back a little of LD50. And for the first time the git-fiddle player actually shreds. I didnt think he had it in him. The bassist and drummer were with out a doubt talented but I always thought the guitarist lacked skill. I can say this because I have been playing guitar for over 10 years. I digress, I am impressed with this album. First album I have bought from them since The End Of All Things To Come. I listen to hardcore and metal mainly, but a lil mainstream never hurt anyone and these guys have a decent bridge between mainstream crap and good metal like i dunno say, Trivium, My Hero Is Me, A Hero A Fake, Paddock Park, Running Into The Shadows, Our Last Night, Protest The Hero and slew of other talented bands. Check em out, but don't buy until you've heard a few of their songs.

Lets Face It, this album is not like the good old days. Like there best album LD 50 with songs like dig, cradle, -1, under my skin etc. There not as hardcore as they use to be.

The days of good 'ol Mudvayne are way gone. This is just more of the same watered down radio crap we hear every day. There's no huge guitar riffs that make you wanna jump & the lyrics are gay! It's obvious He's got nothing important to sing about anymore. Compare this cd to L.D. 50 and it's almost laughable. There's a reason these guys don't tour with heavy bands like Slipknot anymore. Who woulda thought you'd see a band like 10 Years touring with Mudvayne the last two tours... Pathetic!!! Worst album by far!
