The Finest!

Jody Watley is one of the finest singers out there. It's unfortunate untalented celebrity junkies eclipse this talented performer. I've seen her live twice and she delivers with vocals AND stage presence. Too many of today's artists (and yesterday's too!) have no clue how to connect with a live audience. You keep doin' your thing, Miss Watley!

What an interesting take Jody had on Madonna's Borderline. I loved the video also.

I stumbled onto this CD. I have been a fan since the Shalimar days. I wasn't looking for this and I didn't ask for it, BUT--I genuinely enjoy most of this. I guess everyone can change. It's a perfect match to back up "Midnight Lounge". You betta work b#*$)!!!
Jody is the queen

She sounds better than ever and this album is great! Too bad modern day music programmers do not pay attention to the divas anymore. I remember seeing her in concert in Oakland at the Paramount theatre in the 80's - she was amazing. Love ya Jody!
Tips of her Manolo's?

Okay, so the words are little weak, but the groove is right-on. The electronica-tinged melodies are sweet, but the Carpenter's Medley, and Borderline are quite forgetable. Don't You Want Me loses it's sass here... There are four standouts : Beautiful Life, Midnight Lounge, Bed of Roses and I Want Your Love.

I just happened to hear the cut "Beautiful" on an Internet Jazz station and thought it was her by her distinctive voice but WOW! This is a really matured Jody Watley with a style reminesent of Paul Hardcastle or The Brand New Heavies. I am very impressed and glad her soulful sound has her moving forward to a soulful smooth jazz feel. I am especially glad to see her not trying to live in the past like so many artists from the 80's era try to do. She takes popular tunes and fills them with silkiness... Move over Helen Rogers! JW is here and moving up! I do agree with the other review about Borderline though. Her rendition is good however it doesn't even compare to the other cuts...
Jody Watley's Cool Factor Continues

Jody Watley (a/k/a The Queen of Cool) is a breath of fresh air in the sea of oversexed r&b one-note divas. Her original material is inspiring, while her covers of such classic tunes as Bob Marley's "Waiting In Vain", Madonna's "Borderline" and the disco classics "Love Hangover" and "I Want Your Love" are great reinventions instead of tired remakes. The standout original songs here are "A Beautiful Life," "Bed of Roses" and "The Makeout Superstar". These three songs inspire you to do better in your life. We need more positive energy in music today. Thanks Jody.
a warm rich sound

i think this album gets better the more times i play it. everyone who crafted this did a great job. i don't get urges to play madonnas original version of borderline but I really enjoy this one. All the tracks are worth endless replays.
Superstar, Indeed.

Impeccable and uplifting productions, vocals and messages from Ms. Watley on one of the most perfectly sequenced albums I've heard in a long time. Smooth, deep, late night grooves ...beautiful through and through.
