My first exposure to Charlie was Saturday Jan 23, 2016 at the Kessler Theater in Dallas. Charlie was the opening act for Joe Ely, I wish Joe and Charlie would have done a couple of songs together- that would have made a Magical night perfect.
As for this compilation, it is worth every cent or Quarter in Charlie lingo. He delivers a contemporary blues set with traditional blues/New Orleans Jazz love.
The recording does not a over produced feel--- Charlie's vocals feel as if recorded with the same microphone as the background singers and support instruments.
The self written songs show the heart of an artist who has felt the pain of his songs and the "old standards" also have this feel.
This work should be included in all Blues collections as a new standard.
