To me this is the quintessential Ry Cooder album. We had it back in the day and played it till we could hear the other side. The FDR in Trinidad just floors me everytime I hear it. Ahh...Ry...you're just brilliant.

A collection of mostly Great Depression-related songs with inventive arrangements and top-notch playing. 'Denomination Blues', 'On A Monday', and 'Taxes On The Farmer Feeds Us All' are particular favorites.

I had this album on a cassette tape that a friend gave to me as a gift back in 1981. It was never labeled anything but Ry Cooder. I didn't even know who he was at that time, but I couldn't stop listening to it. I literally wore the tape out. I'm so happy I found it again. This record was a slam dunk! If you like music that has roots and a soul, this is for you.
