For all those who don't think that this is a good sampling of Roger's solo work: Incase you haven't figured it out yet, none of these songs were written by Pete Townshend. It's tough to sound like The Who when the guy who wrote 95% of all Who material didn't write a single song on this record. Roger is who he is and had never been a lyricist, and the material on this album, all though not the greatest stuff, was well done by Roger. If you are really a Who fan you should be able to understand that. Oh and by the way Itunes...the title track is actually called "Parting Would Be Painless"...not should. If you really want to hear a very good Roger song check out "How Does The Cold Wind Cry". That song alone makes this worthy of 4 stars.

Daltrey has never tried to emulate The Who in his solo work. Which is a good thing - too many singers' solo albums are a pale imitation of their bands' work, and therefore taints that band. Daltrey has put out crummy albums before (Ride a Rock Horse, Can't Wait to See the Movie), but this one is pretty good. Yes, his vocal syling is vastly differernt to his work with The Who, which to me - as a MASSIVE Who fan - make it all the more intriguing - and definitely proves that Daltrey is one of the most talented singers ever in rock music. You may not want to start with this album (One of the Boys, Daltrey, McVicar, or Rocks in the Head would be a better starting point). But don't count this album out.
  • Incredible CD

Im shocked to read these medium reviews. No, this CD is not stacked with Baba o Riley or We Won't Get Fooled Again, however, as a break up CD, it is full of emotion, I think this is an incredible Torch Song. Listen to Eurythmics "Somebody Told Me" back to back to Roger Daltrey's version. Which one did you fall asleep too? Hint, it was not Roger's.

The hit here is Walking In My Sleep. Always loved that song. Great video from early MTV days. Glad iTunes made this album available and at a cheaper price.

If you're looking for good post-Who solo material from Roger Daltrey, try Under A Raging Moon or the McVicar soundtrack. There isn't a lot to really like about this one. The songs are generally weak and his singing is strangely lacking emotion and drive. I listened to my vinyl version seeing if there was anything here I wanted to download. I ended up deleting the album from my collection. Since I'm a huge Who fan, that should tell you all you need to know. Not terrible, but not the album I'd ever choose if I want to listen to Roger.
