To previous reviewer - Im glad that you're aware and touched by the original tale. Congrats to you.
To everyone else - this is another powerful and insightful, touching and beautiful, stirring and mesmerizing composition by one of America's FINEST composers to have ever lived. Act 2/Scene 3 duet is one of the most beautiful moments to come to opera in YEARS.
The baritone and soprano both have gorgeous voices... the tenor, though (in that Adams helden tenor sort of way) is just not as easy to listen to... but the vocal demands for that role leave one with little choice of performer.

It's all fine and good for what it is but it's sad to see such a fine ancient tale get the Walt Disney treatment. The, somewhat post Phil Collinsesq sound it gets will make you pround to announce to the world that you're culturally aware of something.
