Phrygian Great!

Phrygian Gates is amazing, and for Adams' fans would be worth the price of the album alone were it not for the fact that this recording is lacking. Ralph van Raat is too heavy handed in the loud sections for my tastes. He also misses some nuances in the quieter portions. The better bet is Ursula Oppens' recording in American Piano Music of Our Time. The latter is unfortunately not on iTunes, but it's worth finding. (And you get Old and Lost Rivers, a great work by Tobias Pickers.)
