  • As A Whole, My Favorite Jon Anderson Solo Work

I don't understand why this album is not enjoyed more universally. Songs about chicks and other mundane topics? More like songs about spiritual evolution and so forth.... These are wonderful tunes with great melodies and that ever-present uplifting, positive undertone. It surprises me whenever I haven't listened to it for a while and put it on. Don't write this one off so fast. This is, quite possibly my favorite Jon Anderson work from start to finish although I think that other albums surpass it on a track by track (Song of Seven and Olias stuff..) basis.

Listening to Jon Anderson sing about such pedestrian things as love and chicks is like walking in on your mom and dad having sex. There's a distinct disconnect between a natural act between two people in love, and the distinct horror of having to witness it out of context. Top of the World however, is a masterpiece. Yes, Jon is more at home in the spiritual heart than in the groin. His context is other worldly, that is his home, and he makes it comfortable and compelling for all who care to listen.

I like the single allot and the album has some really nice playing on it. I was a huge fan of Yes’s 90125 and was patiently waiting for Big Generator to be released. In the City of Angles was my first Jon solo album. I can appreciate it better now then back in the 80's. I remember picking up a copy at Sam Goody or Sound Odyssey and was so excited expecting to hear that Prog-Rock sound. Get well soon Jon…
  • A Different Jon Anderson

Jon's voice is in fine form as always. The only problem is that there are too many pop songs about love on this album. Jon's voice just doesn't sound believable when singing about love. He has such a disctinct voice and it shouldn't be wasted on pop songs. There are some really good songs (Top of the World, Hurry Home) on this album though
