  • Great Concept

This is a great concept for an aging star. No disrespect, but Jon isn’t going to be putting out the the rockers that he did back in the height of his popularity. He put out a fairly solid album, but there was no great song(s) and his voice was a little off (i.e. shot). So what did he do? He went back in the studio and added guests to each song and made it a duets album. Adding the likes of JellyRoll to songs will get him the attention that this album lacked due to the lack of standout songs on their own. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good album, especially if you like Bon Jovi, but the duets make it interesting enough to listen more than once or twice.

TO BRING BACK SAMBORA. One last ride. The right way. John sounds good.. but over working cost him his voice and his brother. It’s not BON JOVI without Richie.
  • Two legends at work.

This was achingly beautiful and yet hauntingly sad. This was a stellar piece of writing performed by two legends and they did not disappoint. Well done, boys, well done…it got me all up in my feels. John sounds pretty good and his voice is clearly recognizable. Will he ever be that same singer of yonder years gone? Probably not, but he can still deliver. And Bruce? Well, I’m here for it.
  • Is JBJ back?

Welp, the boys pumped out this latest single, and Jon’s voice actually sounds pretty good. He’s definitely worked hard, rehabbing his voice, and it seems to show in this song. That said, he wants to get to the point where he’s doing 2 1/2 hour shows five nights a week… So jury is still out. Nonetheless, this song certainly has an anthem-like feel to it with a soaring chorus, reminiscent of “classic” Bon Jovi releases of the past. I took one star off because the middle eight has some sort of keyboard-like solo versus a guitar solo, which is a bit of a letdown for hard-core Bon Jovi fans. I’m not sure whether Jon and Shanks are going for more of a pop sound (it certainly feels that way to a certain degree). And if so, it’s puzzling as to why. Phil X is more than capable of handling any type of soaring guitar solo needed. And let’s be honest, it’s those roaring guitar solos of Richie‘s which really contributed to that traditional Bon Jovi “rock” sound. As we know, he’s been gone for a while — but again, Phil X is more than capable of filling that void. Jon needs to leverage that talent and bring the guitar solos back. Candidly, any type of extended guitar solo has been pretty non-existent for the last, almost two, Bon Jovi albums. All in all, this song is a bright and promising sign from Jon and the whole Bon Jovi crew. Jon needed a win, and he has one with this song. Let’s hope things keep turning around for the better. 👍🏻
