Great music from long ago. I saw the bio-movie "Control" about Joy Division a few years ago. Well done B&W indie film. Ian Curtis' voice is so haunting and the lyrics are as relevant today as they were when they were written. The Manchester area of England was the birth place of may influential bands in the 70s and 80s but Joy Division was probably the most influential of all of them and help create new genres of music. I am glad the remaining members of Joy Division, Sumner, Hook and Morris, were able regroup as New Order and continue. You can only wonder what music Ian Curtis could have created if his health were better and he had not committed suicide at age 23.

I still can't think of any music more starkly chilling than "No Love Lost" - like the song said, [I, not a she] shuddered instinctively. In a different way, "Leaders of Men" is similarly astounding. Both use big crimes of the State, or crimes of Humanity in the former case, to stand in for one's personal black feelings. I'm still at a loss to understand how brave this band was to write so openly and explicitly about so dark and forbidden a topic as the horrors of the Concentration camps - specifically the medical "experiments". That can't be easy. And, giving absolutely NO acknowledgement or endorsement to those dreadful undertakings - other than knowing about and mourning for their existence - Curtis' brilliance, at least by my reading, was to turn such an awful story into an even MORE awful metaphor for one's personal torments and misery is astounding. Who knows if he was writing about 'imself. Who cares, right? Could be anyone. Could be any deeply saddened and troubled bloke wandering under those grey Mancunian skies in a peacoat, smoking Silk Cuts and with the words "Glare At Others" written on each day of their calendar....This music must ONLY BE LISTENED TO IN WINTER. MAKE NO EXCEPTION.

I'll start by saying that I usually don't by albums from itunes, but this is truly a great deal. It is designed to replicate the 7" vinyl box set of this album. By them including "itunes LP" you get all of the original 7" artwork(front/back cover & record labels), lyrics, liner notes(explaining the release of each single). Also, a band member interview video explaining the remastering process. And of course 4 great music videos. Excellent value with a great set of B side tracks.

So glad this is on iTunes. Been waiting for Warsaw, and now it's here. As if the music weren't enough, the videos are a real treat. Listening to these tracks you realize just how much Joy Division grew and matured in such a short time. They keep calling me...

If you start with the Beatles, or Muddy Waters, or Buddy Holly, and you end with Radiohead, or Tame Impala, or [insert latest and greatest], you realize that this music we call "rock and roll" is truly--verily, I say unto you--all about the journey. And your journey at some point will take you to Joy Division. The beginning of the Manchester scene--the cusp of New Wave, the precursor to New Order--etc. But at the end, like any bit of music that passes the test--you just turn it up to eleven, and dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio.

"Warsaw" finally makes its debut on iTunes. I am so happy. That said, Joy Divisions best tracks are "Isolation", "She's lost control", "Transmission" and "Love WIll Tear Us Apart" (Of course) Missing from here are "Twenty Four Hours" and "Day of the Lords", two more great Joy Division songs. See the film Control and get to know this amazing band whose career was cut short with the suicide of Ian Curtis.
