  • Great Album! Great band!

I think the standout single is between Photo Voltaire and California Noir. They just have a great feel and great choruses. Black Market Machines has that great distorted vocal and almost edgy Black Rebel Motorcycle Club feel which intrigues me. Cast Into The Sea has that almost shimmery acoustic type rhythm that reminds me of something akin to New Order. Just really fun to listen to. No You Can't has that almost Ian Curtis type vocal with an Interpol-ish feel that I find awesome. The whole album flows nicely and no song could be without the one before it or after it. In my opinion that's what makes a "record" in a day and age of "song collections/singles with filler".

All I gotta say is, is that this is one helluva amazing album! It seems like each album has that "Never A Dull Moment" vibe to it. Luv these guys! Been a fan since day one.

I've been an Orgy fan since 1998. I purposely avoided all side projects from the band because I was bitter for so long about not getting new Orgy music. I stumbled upon this 2 Part album by Julien-K. The band was formed by two ex-Orgy members, Ryan and Amir. I started listening to these two albums a few days ago and I was immediately hooked. I have listened to both probably about 7 times each. I can't stop. I love the 80's sound and I'm getting some Bowie vibes from the vocals, both are good things to me. I'm so glad I ended my bitterness and decided to check out Julien-K because both California Noir albums are amazing from start to finish. I didn't skip one song. Thanks Ryan and Amir! I can tell a lot of hard work went into making these songs because there's no "filler" songs on either album. Now, if you excuse me, I have to go listen to these on repeat some more. 😍

Awesome combination of alternative rock and 80s synthesizer. Amazing vocals. Great band. I heard of them because two of the members used to be in orgy and I loved that band but julien-k is even better.

This album represents much that is lost from the past, as well as turning to the future. Both worded and composed extremely well. Nothing but great things ahead for this group of digital artists.

I’ve been listening to this record daily since its release, and as much as I liked the previous two records from Julien-K, I feel that California Nori - Chapter One is their strongest work yet. From the smart and cohesive songwriting to the lush and layered production, this album sounds great from start to finish and I’ve really enjoyed it as it unfolded for me this past week. Stand out tracks include Photo Voltaire, the very catchy first single California Noir, Black Market Machines and Eviscerate - which as the last track on the record comes too soon IMHO… premature termination? ;-) No worries - we have Chapter Two to look forward to next. Anyway - great work by a great band that gets better every time I hear it, just as Julian-K get better with every new release.

The album is very diverse and appeals to many different genres throughout. I hear Dance, Rock, ElectroniK , New Wave, Pop and Punk. The melodies are rhythmic tones that send euphonic sound waves down your spine. The vocals and harmonies have sex appeal exploding all over the Synthesized beats. The album makes you feel simultaneously inspired, free, sexual, sensual and like you want to dance as if no one is watching... That in my opinion is a very talented group that has once again managed to master another beautiful piece of art and share it with the world! If your not a JK fan, you will be after California Noir.. My favorites: She's the pretender- Sexy Deep Beat underground- Euphonic Analog beaches and Digital cities- Inspiring Black market machines- Gives an adrenaline rush. Thanks JK...
