I think Vinyl Confessions is a very good Kansas album. Very heavy and progressive like older Kansas, with some pop elements and something new for this group, horns on several songs. Jon Elefante was a very good replacement for Steve Walsh, though I don't like him as much, especially in his high vocal register. I think this is a much better sounding album than Audiovisions. Song wise, it doesn't equal the great songs from it's predecessor, tunes like Hold On and Loner, but also doesn't reach the lows. Exciting instrumental sections as usual. My two favorite songs are Windows and the very exciting and progressive Crossfire. Great lyrics as always. I don't love every track but overall I find this to be a very good album.

This is a great album, my personal favorite kansas release. The lead vocals really shine.

The song writing is truly the best of both worlds, with the best of both Elefante and Livgren, while stylistically, there is a great blend of progressive rock, jazz, and blues styles, with expressive and moving use of the piano, fiddle, harmonica, and saxophone, all unique (for Kansas) to this album. Not a single "filler" song.

In this rendition of Kasas, the musical style changed along with the lead singer . If you were a big fan of the old Kansas sound, you may be disappointed with this release. The progressive rock sound is gone.
