Six stars would be more appropriate for this particularly fine grouping of performances. Mr. Herreweghe's music career began in Belgian at the Ghent Conservatory where he studied piano with Marvel Gazelle, graduating in 1975. Prior to his graduation, he created the Collegium Vocale Gent at the age of 23. The group soon became known as one of Europe's finest early music groups and was pursued by Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Gustav Leonhardt to perform with them in their recording sessions. Two years after Herreweghe's graduation in 1977, he formed La Chapelle Royale in Paris. His vision for this group was to perform the music of the French Golden Age. He has also gone on to form several other groups that performed repertoire from the renaissance to contemporary music. Among these groups were the Ensemble Vocale Europeen and the Orchestre des Champs Elysees (founded 1991). This recording typlifies Herreweghe's attention to detail as he masterfully pulls every possible potential from his performers. The recording goes further; notice its clarity...every word can be heard plainly. The sounds are lush and full, the melodies beautiful. Bravo Maestro and Bravo to your performers and recording technicians. This recording is my absolute favorite so far for this year (May 2007)!

you kind of have to be in to this kind of music, but it's still very pretty, and the songs are quite long.
