Mr. James Taylor you are an amazingly clever lyricist and poet!!! This is one of his
non-mainstream songs that I play again and again and again...
Timeless album.

So easy to listen to. I pull it out every ten years and play it for a couple of months.
Reviews of James Taylor

A couple of reviewers said things like 'I don't why this one was missed..." or "best unknown album".
Just when I thought Americans could not become more self-centered and oblivious to the world around them, I am again shocked.
Not only is this NOT an "unknown" record, nor has it been "missed", it is an exceptional and well-known masterpiece of baritone crooning, unique and masterful guitar playing, song writing, plus top-drawer production and mastering. You cannot go wrong.

A really remarkable album...you will sing along to the whole thing. I know I do. Loaded with hits, this album has amazing deep tracks too.
Condescension Does Not Become You

Could this itunes store review BE more condescending?
The other way to look at it is that this CD marked Taylor embracing his roots, claiming his rightful place in American musical culture, and perhaps finally overcoming his own personal demons.
But the iTunes reviewer is probably too young to understand stuff like that. Perhaps when they get a little more life experience they'll learn to appreciate the wisdom in this great JT album.

Is James Taylor the greatest singer ever? No. Is his voice perfectly matched for some of the greatest lyrics ever? Yes. I have owned this Album on cassette tape, on CD, and now it's about to go on my iPod/iPhone.
If you think it's great the first time around, wait until you hear it for the 50th time and the words really start to sync in.
JT's Best Unknown Album

I have been a fan for 14 years- I own all of his albums and I am always surprised with how little acclaim this album has receieved. Who wouldn't love a song that is written about his pet pig, Mona? Or the appreciation he gives to his fans in the title song That's Why I'm Here? A great album to unwind to. I would urge all James Taylor fans to check out this album.
Great album!

This was the first JT album i ever listened to and I bought the tape way back in 1986. "That's Why I'm Here", if you ever hear it live outside, is great with the line, "Some are like summer coming back every year. Got your baby, got your blanket, got your bucket of beer"....Only a Dream in Rio became probably my favorite contemporary JT song - so different from any of his other songs. It's the album that made me fall in love w/ JT's music as a teenager, and now as an adult, it still has a special place in my heart now that I own all of JT's cds.
