Carrie & Lowell was hands down my favorite recording of 2015. Then this year C & L Live came out and I was exstatic. Then to my surprise Sufjan releases The Greatest Gift yet another interpretation of songs from Carrie & Lowell. I remembered I had a cassette player in component stereo and it just seemed right to buy Mixtape on cassette even though I wasn't sure the player still worked. It did and I'm so glad case The Greatest Gift is just that. A treasure. Thanks for the early Xmas gift Sufjan. Much appreciated!

I love that Sufjan has really given himself to his fans in this album. On the demo tracks, they are so sparse and emotional. You can hear him almost breaking down as he sings about his experiences with his depression and his mom and stepdad in Oregon.
