  • A Knock Out Album

Just soaked in Steve Earle & Dukes in Houston as they opened their tour. They absolutely laid it down and gave the audience almost 3 hours of pure joy. Anyone that has a chance to catch them on tour should jump at the chance to snack up some tickets, go hear ‘em, relax and enjoy some of the best musicianship you can find and hear a great song writer share his craft with you. Chris Masterson (lead guitar - The Dukes) and his wife Eleanor Whitmore (fiddle, piano, mando - The Dukes) were a treat with a 30 min opening that gave everyone a taste of what their own group, The Mastersons, have to offer. The man can play that guitar and that woman has the voice of angel.

This is more c & w sounding. I prefer when he rocks or plays more blues (Terraplane). But I do think Earle is a great, and I do mean GREAT, song writer and live performer. Can't wait to see him in August on the tour for this album. He's always great with a full band backing him up.

Melodic hard edged country reminiscent of '87-'97; my favorite since Train-a-comin. Starts out strong, I listened to the first two tracks over and over before moving on. I predict this will be Grammy nominated.

I have been listening to Steve Earle since the 80's, and I have to say this is his best album since Copperhead Road! He has had some good music along the way, but its been a while since I have heard an album that is country enough, with the edge that Steve has in his music. He is at his best with this kind of sound. If he goes to "rock", he just mixes in with others. When he does what he does on this album, he stands alone. This is the type of sound that made me love his music. I remember reading a review of one of Copperhead Road, and the reviewer said, " a country based, rock inflected album." That's what this is. Maybe even a little more country sounding. I love the Steel Guitar and fiddles. That's part of the secret to his uniqueness. Thanks Steve (and the Dukes). This album is an instant classic!

For those of us that were listening to Steve back in the Exit O and Shut up and fly like an aviator days it's a nice trip backwards to hear an old friend play his music so back to his roots. I need an album like this one for awhile. I remember getting his album, El Corazon and how it spoke to me.... Thank you Steve.. Having only heard these htree tracks i bought the album!
