Say Hello to the Future

This 5 track EP serves as a great appetizer for Cale's next full-length album. "CatastrofuK" starts things off with some delightfully funky production, It sounds contemporary, but it's definitly Cale. "Whaddya Mean by That" is much slower and features some nice floating guitar work by Dustin Boyer. "Hey Ray" is somewhat reminisnscent of songs like "Hush" from Black Accetate. In my opinion, it's the weakest track on the EP but it is still a decent song. "Pile a L'heure" is sexy. It feature's a great bass line and some wonderful production. At first, it's off-putting to hear Cale with auto-tune effects on his voice, but it really works. "Perfection" closes the album. The track's verse is a distant cousin of Iggy Pop's "Nightclubbing". The chorus is pretty indicative of the EP itself: "Getting the picture/ Making it simple/ we had the answers all along". Cale's career has been on fire since his 5 track EP. There are not many artists that could enter a highmark of their career into their 60s and 70s. The EP shows that Cale indeed still has "it" and that the follow-up full legnth album that should appear sometime next year is going to be one to remember.
