An Exquisitely Beautiful Album

I'm surprised this hasn't been reviewed here before. "Only Love Would Know" is one of the most beautiful songs GL has ever written. "Ring them Bells" is a wonderful cover of a Bob Dylan song -- one of Lightfoot's relatively few covers. "Drink Yer Glasses Empty" seems to me a subtle and moving song about men going off to war, and has the feel of the First World War about it. "Waiting for You," "Wild Strawberries," "Restless," are all lovely. It's really a scandal that Gordon Lightfoot does not get the respect he deserves as one of the finest North American songwriters of the last 40 years. Dylan has consistently given him the highest praise. So where is his grammy, or his induction into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame? Anyway, don't listen to my rant, just buy this terrific record -- showing Gord's creative powers undiminished this late in the game.
