Let’s compare AIC’s classic EP to Taylor Swift’s steaming pile of insufferable garbage shall we: TTPD: was written during her pompous Eras tour, recorded over several months, released only to dump an extended edition 12 hours later thus robbing her fans of money. Contains horrible lines like “touching me while you play GTA” and “see the asylum where they raised me”. Wench is literally in a race against 21 year old Olivia Rodrigo to show that she a 34 year old can be more immature and stupid. Disgusting JOF: written and recorded in a week, showing that AIC had strong chemistry at this point to make songs this good in that short a time. Layne Staley was at an all time low and tried rehab, thus the highly melancholic and deep lyrics on songs Nutshell and Rotten Apple. Coming off Dirt’s relentless darkness, Jerry Cantrell’s acoustic experiments are much more sad sounding than on the previous acoustic EP Sap, and fit the downer mood very well. Nutshell and Don’t Follow are both beautiful but heartbreaking songs, especially the former because of Staley’s lonely death in 2002. It deserved to get to number one and be the very first ep ever to do so and the only one for ten years. 30 years later it remains as harrowing as it was then, making it the perfect follow-up to Dirt. It’s a shame the band went through the motions afterwards, but at least they got in a few more recordings before falling apart in 1998 prior to Staley’s death. They’ve gotten back together since but the magic that was Staley and Cantrell has been cut in half never to be filled up again. Jar of Flies is one of the very best 90’s rock records ever made and deserves its place in the hearts of fans and new listeners.

I loooove Alice In Chains so much. They can do no wrong. By the way, Swing On This is an extremely underrated song. If you haven’t heard it, do it now. It’s a jam. But yes, rotten apple, nutshell, stay away, no excuses, swing on this, SOOO good. Miss you Layne

This is hands down the best Rock album of the 1990’s. Probably top 5 rock albums of all time. Stayley and Cantrell’s harmonies were made for the haunting acoustic sounds of this album.

Reminds me of my brother, who’s no longer here. Takes me back to being a kid, young and free in high school. Great album
