  • There's a good reason why he won "Artist of the Decade"

Not quite what I was looking for, in fact I get kinda bored when I listen to this album. You know that feeling you get listening to Prefuse 73 music, when your thinking, man what are all these noises, where is he going with this. And then all of a sudden he mixes it up slightly, it all comes together, and for a moment even life itself seems to make sence. Thats what makes his music so good, but it never really happens in any songs on this album. I was disapointed and highly recommend going for one of his other works.
  • another disappointing effort from someone who is capable of better

“Vocal Studies and Uprock Narratives” and “The '92 vs '02 Collection”, two outstanding releases, established a new criterion in the spectrum of electronic and hip-hop music largely because of Scott Herren’s extremely broad and cultured scope of sources and interests, but these same factors may have served to overwhelm and undermine just about every other undertaking I’ve witnessed from this artist.   It would have been curious and risky enough to do what Herren did with his second “Prefuse 73” album “One Word Extinguisher,” which was to follow up by releasing “Extinguished: Outtakes, Alternate Takes & Beats from One Word Extinguisher,” a shorter album comprised of music omitted from “One Word Extinguisher” (why would he assume that anyone would have any interest in material not good enough for the album?), but what resulted should have been even more embarrassing for Herren when the “Outtakes” turned out to be superior to any of the material on the full length album.   Since then, Herren has continued to release work under the name “Prefuse 73” as well as under a couple different monikers in very rapid succession.  I’ve listened to two “Savath and Savalas” albums and found them both unremarkable as well as nearly everything else I’ve heard after 2003 from “Prefuse 73.”  What could explain such an unfortunate decline?  Is he trying to do too much and spreading himself too thin in the process with all of his other projects?  Have his later releases become worse because he’s inadvertently relaxed his own standards to where he is too comfortable with his preliminary efforts, or has his reservoir of ideas proven too lofty for his musical talent to support?    When I read all of these four and five star reviews on “I-Tunes,”I chose to take a chance on “Preparations”, but this title is appropriate in an unfortunate way, with Herren again sounding like he’s preparing to do something great without getting around to actually doing so.  If you haven’t heard “Preparations” yet, but are familiar with the previous efforts of this artist, you should consider how “One Word Extinguisher” seemed in relationship to “Extinguished: Outtakes.”  If you thought the former equivalent to or better than the latter, you’ll probably like “Preparations,” but if you preferred the “Outtakes” and were disappointed by “One Word Extinguisher”, you’ll probably be equally disappointed by “Preparations.”
  • sure a winner, once again

Prefuse is elevating his distinguished style without loosing its trademarks. He is not afraid of bridging the gaps between hip hop beats and electronica and sets standards yet to be met by other producers of the genre. Thank you for another outstanding release.

The preperations part is a little down tempo, but is thick with great sound and texture. The Interregnums section is amazing, and would be a sweet movie soundtrack.
  • I would rate this a six if I could !

It's true, this is a beautiful record. I am diggin the [bonus] disc more. I feel that there's more soul shinin fourth in the Interregnums. These compositions feel a bit like some of that Savath y Savalas, and a little touch from Scott's other projects...it's a new sound for him...kinda like an amalgamation of all his work to date...the sound coalesces into this wonderfully expressed landscape of melancholy prefuse flows...without the interworkings of his beats and diced samples. Dig it. It's a bit longer than Preparations. I miss the humor from his Extinguished work...somethin' that I've always connected with in his beats.

Again Guillermo Scott Herren (Prefuse 73) orchestrates a beautiful collection of new works. This is a triumphant return to classic P73 fashioned beats, movements, and glitches from a stripped down detour on his last effort. NOTE: The first 15 tracks are the Preparations album, which is narrated from the Prefuse guise. The last 15 tracks, Interregnums is actually a totally seperate collection of cinemaic orchestrations which are conducted by Herren's Savath & Savalas persona. Both are great accomplishments by this ever inspiring artist.
  • sick..

I listen to a lot of undergound hip hop and electronic music but this album and the bonus disk are groundbreaking to the point of exhaustion. Every track is good. Make no mistake about that. Listened to as a whole this is nothing short of remarkable.. wow.
