Only way i kno how to describe this N'Oleans band. They are the fire on the bayou. They are the epitome of funk. Tippi-toes carries you away. The bass is perfect. Cissy strut is amaizng Soul Island is great. The guitar is funky. The beats are inventive. The lyrics are spot on. Its hard to get much better than this.

How the #@!* have I missed these guys up until now (2007)? Clean, funky, exceptionally tight, the sort of music that will pick up any drive, party, jog, ... whatever. Sure, it is unique and clean enough that you have to mix some other stuff in-between listenings - it CAN wear on you after awhile. But after a short reprieve, you can dive right back in. After listening to a decent portion of their repertoire, it's clear they didn't sell out - they stayed true to their roots. They did their share of exploring different sounds, but you can always tell its The Meters. Great, great stuff - highly recommended addition to anyone's music library.

This Best Of collection is an excellent place to start listening to The Meters, although once you listen to this you will probably end up buying their entire catalogue. This music is as fresh as it was when it funked its' way out of Nawlinz 30 plus years ago.
