I'm a huge Nevermore fan, and was initially a little skeptical about hearing Warrel Dane sing in a falsetto voice, but after hearing "Battle Angels" (such an epic intro), I was hooked. This is an amazing album start to finish, and I highly recommend it!
\m/ <-- HORNS UP!!

The first time I heard this band was with the song "Battle Angels". It was awesome! When the chorus came along, I was BLOWN AWAY! I am finally getting around to buying the full album. I suggest you all do the same, and set the metal monster within you free!
One of the greatest metal albums I own.

Crank up the volume and get ready for one of greatest head splintering albums of all time. If I'm being honest, the lyrics themselves almost have no meaning at all, but the silliness of the lyrics and their mighty high-soaring delivery is what makes the album so much fun. I've been listening to this album non-stop for about four months. The entire album is good, but it does slow down for me at White Rabbit. I'm sure a lot of people will like their rendition, but it's a little boring for me. After that the Album pick up again with Ascension to Destiny and The Third War which has one of my favorite lines that makes me laugh every time I hear it: "As the city burns I cannot hear your cries; will our world end in nineteen-ninety-nine?" In Closing: I wish the singer continued to sing like this in his band Nevermore. I would buy their albums if he did. He kinda mocked his old way of singing in a live performance I saw, and it made me think the only reason you think it sounded stupid is because you can't sing like that anymore. This album along with the other Sanctuary album are time-capsules of awesome and must be purchased if you are to obtain, as the song Sanctuary describes, "Pure energy and perfect knowledge". BUY IT NOW!!!!

I can't even give Sanctuary enough credit! These guys really put all the effort into this one record. They covered songs such as White Rabbit by Jefferson airplane and made this album an overall classic. I am a huge megadeth fan so by luck i found this band since the megadeth frontman, dave mustaine, had produced this album. If you go to megadeth's main page, and hit biography, somehow, this santuary album will come up. It is definatly worth buying if you like bands like metallica, megadeth, overkill, and nevermore. People who like slayer type of thrash, i encourage you not to get this album.
A good debut album for an underappreciated band.

Sanctuary is another casualty of the metal scene during the 1980's. So many heavy metal groups were being created that some of the best like Sanctuary and Sacred Oath never got the time of the day from radio shows, MTV, or listeners. Warrel Dane's unique and powerful vocals are what will first grab your attention. He can be very high pitched and borderline screaming one minute just to be normal the next. It's definitely an aquired taste for some, it seems like people either love him or hate him. I personally love his voice and style, I think he's a breath of fresh air and genuinely skilled. The guitar and drum work is heavily mixed, so of it is pretty good with some cool ideas, while some of it can also be pretty average and even boring at times, but this is to be expected on most debut albums. You can hear a definite Helloween influence on this album rather than a Megadeth influence despite be produced by Dave Mustaine himself. Wether that's a good or bad thing is soley up to you. My favorite tracks on this album are "Sanctuary", "Ascension To Destiny", and "Veil of Disuise". The cover of "White Rabbit", originally by Jefferson Airplane, is surprisingly great as well and is by far the best cover of that song I've ever heard. The album is really great although a bit hard to find these days, and I highly recommend it.
Take refuge in Sanctuary...wicked album!

When I first heard Sanctuary I was blown away! Warrel Dane's vocals are supreme.Die for my sins,Battle Angels,White Rabbit;you can't get any better than this.I bought the album without even a listen, due to the fact Dave Mustaine worked on this project... and it totally exceeded my expectations.Their sophmore release; Into The Mirror Black should be in every headbangers' collection.Take refuge in sanctuary my friends-WICKED- MSW - (LAZARUS.187)

This is one of the best metal albums ever! Unfortunately most people have never even heard of it. If you like Nevermore you will be happy to know that Warrell was the vocalist for this band before he was in Nevermore. His vocals are absolutely insane on this album! Falsetto to the limit, he would make halford in his prime nervous! The riffs and solos are surperb as well.
