Although I remember this album when it came out, I made new association with it or cognitive cues if you will. I enjoy this album now more than every before.
  • CATCH AL ON TOUR FOR THIS ALBUM

I wore out the cassette, now I'm all over this great effort from Return to Forever's classy guitarist on the download. Al is back on tour in the US. Just caught him in Scottsdale, AZ with Billy Cobham. If they are coming anywhere within your hemisphere, catch them if you can. Al plays the entire Elegant Gypsy album and his band is tight and soars like an eagle. I love this recording and you will too!
  • Much Better these days

Fusion fan from the beginning and bought this masterpiece in vinyl (still have it too) first release. I must say, I love it even more today on better equipment (ie. digital). Al-Di is the focus of most of the comments I read, but look at the players on this album - like benchmarks in a who's who. Not many girlfriends into anything but disco at the time - this was the personal collection.

A terific follow-up to "Land of the Midnight Sun". Al rips it up as usual and lets every bandmate in on the fun just long enough to make it a collaborative effort. One of the soundtracks to my freshman year in college when most of my dormmates hadn't progressed past classic rock quite yet. I got asked to TURN IT DOWN frequently which is a sign you're doing something right!

The Fusion ethos is blazingly clear here, in full flail!! The support of A. Jackson/Gadd of Jan and Al in "Flight Over Rio" that makes those breaks Soar! One of the all-timers!!
  • Still A Great Score!

I discovered Elegant Gypsy while at College in the late 70's and fell in love with this album. Ian Hammer's Moog solo mixed with Di Meola's acoustic work still makes me weep. This is a must have record of fusion at its best!
  • The Greatest

For me personally, Al Di Meola is the greatest guitar player that I have ever heard. His tremendous style and technique are evident on Elegant Gypsy. Ever since I first heard his work in 1975, I have been hooked. It's like a chemical release in my brain whenever I hear his works of art. He may shun some of his earlier work, but this man is a true genius, whether we are talking about 1975 or 2005 and beyond. Pick up this album and give it a listen. You will be blown away.
