Streetlands

Thank you burial. Streetlands, (and Antidawn, which this feels like a bit of a companion piece to) are some of my favorites works from the man. My only complaint is that Hospital Chapel is a LITTLE too similar to Beachfires, in my opinion. Still a decent track tho, and the other two, Streetlands specifically, is breathtaking. Anyways, thank you again burial. Absolutely gorgeous stuff. Always a pleasant surprise to see a new burial release that breaks the 30min mark. Maybe we’ll even get another before the fall/winter season is over.

Burial continues flattening out his music in rather intriguing ways. Instead of the snarling hiss of static and the rat-a-tat of distant bit insistent snared beats from his earlier work, he's moving in a more cinematic direction. It's a beautiful record, and hard not to see fiery strips of sunsetting desert in this lush spectral music, an alternative soundtrack to any Denis Villeneuve film, even DUNE. The coiled wisp of vocals are still there, it still has its trademarked ghostliness...BUT... at 34 miuntes, it seems coyly pretentious at this point to still be calling these later records EPs. Mostly because they are certainly being PRICED AS FULL LENGTHS! Burial seems resistant to formally calling something he does the "follow up to Untrue" but he's not the same artist as he was in 2007 (who is?) and I think that can be acknowledged instead of cloaked.
