A Pleasantly Mellow Classic

By Bill Appel
From way of Scotland, Al Stewart became recognized in the US with the 1976 hit "Year Of The Cat" and continued to build on his success with this 1978 classic, "Time Passages", an uplifting overall light, mellow album with his trademark brainy lyrics, a light smooth vocal delivery and a laid back, clean guitar sound, style and texture. Produced extraordinarily by the great sound guru Alan Parsons, this album delivered two simply said superb gems that were FM radio staples at the time, the title track and "Song On The Radio", in a time where a nice, smooth excursion was needed from the flooding of the late 70's disco craze.
Other standouts contain the more darker, mesmerizing, but very cool personal favorite "Life In Dark Water" as well as the cerebral "A Man For All Seasons", the simply said beauty of "The Palace Of Versailles" and "Timeless Skies" as well as the dreamy acoustic "End Of The Day".
This album is definitely an excursion for your peace of mind!!

There is a very good reason these three albums come up with the Alan Parsons Project albums in the recommended listings. Try them out for yourself.

The problem with iTunes is simple. Once upon a time, people would sit around and discuss what albums you would take to a deserted island, (provided that the deserted island had electricity). Now you can take all of your albums to that desert island via your iPhone, ipad, iwhatever...my point is, let's reserve 5 stars for those albums that you would take to a desert island.
It's a GOOD album, not great, maybe the best he did, but come on...
Not A Bad Cut On This Masterpiece

It must have been hard to follow up Year Of The Cat. But Al Stewart really came close on this hidden jewel in his catalog. The title track is every bit as interesting lyrically and musically as Year Of The Cat, and Song On The Radio is as good as anything in his repetoire. A great album,

On par as one of Al Stewarts greatest albums. Each song puts you in the action/scene of the words. He has the ability to create an image with every song. A gotta have, a must.
