It has been a long time since I found a new album I was this excited about. I am going on a road trip today and I may just listen to this album on repeat.

This album is so wonderful I actually googled “how to buy music on my iPhone” because I don’t want to forget about it and I’m always a fan of supporting artists who deserve it. Not only are the songs beautiful themselves but their organized in a powerful way so that the flow of the album is smooth and moving. Lyrics, fabulous. He has a way of discussing the deep and true things every Christian faces (with excellent theology!) but in a way that does not exclude people who haven’t studied theology. He also takes the deep stuff and puts it into poetic contemporary language, well done, sir! None of the lyrics feel forced or like they were a stretch to fit there. Instrumentation is interesting and can be/sound raw and there’s a fun amount of engineering mixed in there too. Harmonies-amazing. Especially Tightrope. Various songs have reminded me of Sufjan Stevens, Sigur Ros, Iron and Wine and some guitar like John Mayer but in his own style and meant as a compliment, not a lack of originality. Definitely worth listening to and please support artists whom you want to hear more from!

This album has meant a lot to me over the last month. It’s truly gorgeous, challenging, moving, convicting and the rare album actually deserving of 5 stars. I don’t buy albums much anymore but I bought this one!

Jon describes his music as devotional - “less Sunday morning worship music and more Monday morning prayer music.” I think that’s an apt description, and as an introspective person, I find it easy to connect with his songs. There is depth and authenticity, along with creative and beautiful melodies and arrangements. Of all the Christian music available, albums like this one make me feel closest to God. Thanks for the inspiration, Jon!
