... You've heard before. Abstract lyrics, and Horror Film soundtrack. You have to accept this work as from an Artist in the truest form First! Secondly, this is an Artist composing songs as if they were pieces of a movie. A Horror movie. One if the darkest albums EVER.
Amazing!

Scott Walker is on a level that can not be understood by mainstream fans! The Drift is horrifically beautiful!

stellar album. in my humble opinion, not as good as Tilt. but "Clara" & "Cossacks Are" are two of his greatest works. especially "Clara". My god. what an experience. you know what: just buy the whole album. right now. drop everything you have planned in your day, and take on the majesty and enigmatic visions of scott walker. if you like this, or are interested in music at all, get Climate of Hunter/ Scott 4/ & Tilt as well.
Almost as engaging as Tilt.

..but don't take this music too seriously, either, folks. There is some black humor underscoring a lot of what's happening, here. Don't miss it, or you're missing a lot of what's essential in this music. As Walker has said, "There is an absurdity there, too, of course, and I hope that people pick up on that. Without the humour, it would just be heavy and boring. . . . If you're not connecting with the absurdity, you shouldn't be there.'
Enigmatic ecstasy...

In this ocean of ordinary rocks, it's easy for something as unique and brilliant as The Drift to remain overlooked. For those of us who are careful investigators into the overly glutinous world of music, The Drift speaks to us in near perfect quality and precision and we find in it a masterpiece. I was convinced that pure musical brilliance died long ago with the great composers of the past until I heard this album. Discovering Scott Walker is a life changing experience. After hearing his music, you are changed forever. You find yourself stunned by the realization that a human being actually created this music and it defies your senses in a deeply dark and disturbing way. It is simultaneously ecstasy, enigmatic and exhilarating for 100 different reasons. This is without a doubt the greatest musical composition of our time.

Chances are if you're actively seeking reviews on I-Tunes, you may not be too interested in this album. Looking at the difference between these "reviews" and the ones written by critics who actually have ground to be a judge of fine music, it certainly shows that I-Tunes is not comprised of literate, or even particularly intelligent individuals. While you squabble over how this album is somewhat above mediocre, the fact is it was considered one of the finest albums of 2006 and one of the most progressive musical endeavors of the decade.
Unnervingly Wonderful

An atmospheric monster that will move you to a shadowy and gruesome place. And between being swallowed by walls of sound and suspended by shivering strings, you will find Walker’s operatic voice singing surrealist poetry.
Genius?

I can not say that this man is a genius. I have many of his albums and have reached the conclusion that he is simply the bravest living musician. Perhaps all music makers could create experiences with their albums if they weren't thinking of sales or listeners. Walker shapes an aural experience that only sounds unsettling because we have been conditioned to believe that music that is not in a traditional form is avant garde. If this is what sold gold records, then we would be used to this strange Scott Walker sound. So, if you are interested in hearing music from an alternate universe where listeners and artists can truly utilize all of what their form can offer, enjoy The Drift.
At the risk of sounding too affluent, I had to stop listening for a moment during, "The Escape" because it was simply too alien to my ears. Even if you don't like it, check it out, it will make you think about all music and why you like what you like.
Abstruse, sublime

Just for the record, there are absolutely NOT any Jacques Brel covers on Tilt. Not by a long mile, or a couple of decades. But I do agree, Ashley Simpson; perfect. I must admit, I have a very hard time with this album. It terrifies me. It is genius, or rather he is a genius, and I am an obsessed fan, but this album is challenging, to say the least.
