This album sounds like it could’ve been cut today, not 1991. Whereas Parallel Dreams has a neat 80’s charm to some of its sounds, this one has never aged a day. Cymbeline might confuse the average person with its Shakespearean lyrics, but it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. The Old Ways is epic with sufficient buildup and climax, and although McKennitt’s version of Greensleeves is dedicated to Tom Waits (that bizarre madman, whom I love on Primus’s Tommy the Cat and Coattails of a Dead Man) it too is good. A new age/Celtic classic, as with most of her work.

I am a huge music lover for many types of music. Loreena McKinnett’s music is my favorite of all. I have been a fan for almost 30 years. I admire how she composes and creates her music and lyrics. Her singing talent is amazing. Her talents as a pianist, harpist and accordion player are astounding. She blends unique musical instruments in her musical creations resulting in musical works of art. Almost every day, I listen to many of her songs. They range from peaceful to meditative to jubilant, and most importantly carry a message of inclusion and harmony with nature and other cultures. Each album is a musical gift to our souls. Thank you Loreena and also Brian, Caroline and Hugh and all the other musicians for this incredible music.
