Returned to this soundtrack after a slight disappointment in the composer’s work for the latest Disney animated adventure and am once again edified by Howard’s score for Atlantis: the Animated Classic. The militaristic march and sweeping orchestral reveal of the submarine drop are exhilarating. The vocals, tranquility and twinkling touches of the Crystal Chamber transport the listener to a place of wonder. My opinion of the score for Raya may improve over time, but Atlantis remains for me one of James Newton Howard’s best.
