You must give a listen to "I Don't Know Why I Love You." It's a cover of a Stevie Wonder song which originally appeared years ago on a tribute album called "Conception." The version on "Other People's Stuff" is different than the version on "Conception" - It's more upbeat and urgent, and I'm blown away, especially by the vocal. Say what you will about his smoking and the effect it's had on his voice, but Mellencamp sounds terrific on this one.
A true Artist

John is better than most when it comes to creating a song that is authentic and true to the artists style. This album has some really good songs and in time will be considered one of his best. 5 Stars
John really doesn’t give a sh**!

If you follow johns career at all then you know he really doesn’t care what people think of his music.hes fought the wars with record companies and the press throughout his career.your not going to get another uh-huh,scarecrow or even jubilee album from John because he has no interest of writing one.what you will find on this album is a few songs that johns released that could pass for top 40 or soft pop.its a good covers album and John does a good job handling the vocals but keep this in mind whenever John comes out with future material he doesn’t want to take a trip down memory lane with past releases he only does songs that appeal to him.
what happened????

Actually these are all old classic blues & old R&B tunes recorded with a crack band live in the studio. In fact, pretty sure it was recorded at the old Sun Studios. That's Marc Ribot on guitar and pretty much leading the band. Nice jpb Mr. Mellencamp, honoring the originals.
Mellencamp does other people’s stuff.

“Other People’s Stuff” by John Mellencamp is just what it says it is...other people’s stuff. And while this is a cover album of songs that have been released on other collections, there are a few that were not released on previous Mellencamp albums. One of these, “I Don’t Know Why” which was released on “Conception—an interpretation of Stevie Wonder’s songs” is a fantastic version of the song...and definitely my favorite on this album. Overall, if you are a Mellencamp fan, you will enjoy it.
Why?

Maybe, just maybe, you should've just kept out of Other People's Stuff. Very dull, lackluster & uninspiring. One of the more entertaing muscians, has lost way more than his groove. Better luck next time, but i seriously doubt it.
Amazing Grit!!!
