Good stuff, sometimes the songs are even better than the originals. I got this album after seeing her live, I dug her versions and didn’t regret buying this. Plus l, who can resist a clever title!

I love her. What an exceptional album. Some of these songs, should be familiar to any R&B fan and now with its Ndegeocello touch are just exquisitely perfect for adulthood. Songs for any occasion like a Candle lite dinner with a lover, wine with friends, afternoon walks in the park, summer day at the beach, road trips and for just lounging any day, any time. No matter what you’re doing this album will make you feel relaxed, sexy and totally grownup.

These songs were originally recorded in the 1980s and 1990s. Beautiful then, more beautiful now especially since a portion of the proceeds benefit the aclu from the sales. A stunner.

First of all, I just want to say that whenever Meshell releases a new album, the peanut gallery always shows up to complain that she didn't make Plantation Lullabies Part 10. I love Plantation Lullabies and Peace Beyond Passion, but they were 25 years ago and she's clearly grown and evolved as an artist and wants to explore new soundscapes. Even listening to those albums in retrospect it was clear at the time that she was more interested in Jazz than in hip hop. I happen to think she's a genius and I'm more than happy to follow Meshell along whatever roads she takes to create her songs. As for the new album, I love it. She reinterprets radio classics from the 80s and 90s and somehow makes them sound new and exposes depths you didn't know were there. My favorite is Atomic Dog, the old George Clinton party anthem. Here she's found the pathos lurking under the surface of the song and turns it into a psychedelia-infused song of existential angst.

I don’t know. I don’t dislike it, I’m just not captivated by the covers as much as the originals. I like the new arrangements, but I feel as if I would save this for a listen when it’s raining, I just broke up with my partner, and my cat is sick. It’s just not something I would be compelled to repeatedly listen to everyday.
