Essential 90s Alternative album

This is one of the essential 90s alternative grunge-era albums to have. Period. Pearl Jam's Ten and maybe Vs, STPs Purple and this album, Soundgarden's Superunknown, Weezer's self-titled blue album, Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream, Dirt by Alice in Chains, Temple of the Dog's only album, possibly the Singles soundtrack, and Nirvana's Nevermind and possibly In Utero. You might need the first two Hole albums, Live's Throwing Copper, and possibly the first Bush album. If you've got that...you're really got the essential 90s grunge/alt-rock starter pack. Every song on Core is great, though the Pearl-Jam-clone accusations aren't precisely wrong. But by the time Purple (the second album) came out, the comparisons ended.

In the best first-three album release by a band ever. Though I shade slightly in favor of Purple and Tiny Music, Core is a powerful tour de force. Not sure if there has ever been a more powerful opening song to a show than Crackerman. Wicked Garden and Sex Type are pure testosterone blasts, though the latter turned out to be an anti-rape song, obviously
The Best!!

I remember buying this album at Tower Records in NYC when it came out and just being hooked on its energy and style. Still pops today when a lot of music from back then just sounds dated.
Fantastic album

This is the only great STP album, the rest are 90% filler garbage. Just buy this and “Thank You” and you’ll have all the STP you need.
