Better Than "Presents" But...

The switch to Bob James on vocals turned many Sammy die-hards away but Jump On It has it moments. Basically, this was it for Montrose. Bob James, on vocals, sounds much better than the last album but Jim Alcivar's keyboards are the story. More rock-pop flavor with some very under-rated work by Ronnie. Let's Go, What Are You Waitin' For and Jump on It all rock. Music Man starts slow but then features Ronnie dishing out some razor sharp licks. Better than Warner Brothers Presents but by 1976, Ronnie's instramental direction was showing itself. Tuft-Sedge was a hint. Either you love the album cover or hate it.
Not that punch in the gut rock you came to love.

This album loses the guttural tone of earlier Montrose (with Sammy) Let's Go, What Are You Waitin' For? sounds quite like Kansas/Styx etc..with the keyboards. More ballad rock than balls to the wall rock. None the less, this is a fair album. Bob James is a good singer and you can't doubt Mr. Montrose. Just seems over produced and typical of the mid 70's corporate rock.
Under appreciated classic

Although most people like the Hagar era Montrose better, I love this album. This album's only problem is that it came out in 1976. '76 was a great year for AOR. Check out 'Rich Man', 'Crazy for You', 'Let's Go', 'Merry Go Round'. Bob James is a great singer in his own right. Don't try to compare him to Hagar. It's apples and oranges. Both are great in their own way.
