The reviewer writes that the lyric ‘Marilyn Monroe died for our sins’ is ‘overstated’. What about ‘Candle In the Wind’ which hadn’t been invented at that point? I’m referring to the original version, not the Versace or Lady Di version…
I was lucky enough to have seen Elliott & band with the New York Dolls at the Performance Center in Harvard Square (and many times, since). I also saw Big Star at the same venue, the same year, I also saw Bruce Springsteen with Dr. John as the opening act that year.
I have been a fan of Dr. John, Elliott Murphy and Big Star, ever since. Elvis Costello has also mentioned ‘Aquashow’ as being hugely influential to his music.
I am totally psyched that I am able to FINALLY download ‘Aquashow’. I haven’t heard ‘Don’t Go Away’ in decades. It’s right up there with ‘Days’ by Ray Davies in my book.
Hopefully, Elliott is getting some of the proceeds!
