I was exposed to the song "Je pense à toi" in the soundtrack of the Israeli film "Forgiveness" and this song was one of the most beautiful I have ever heard. I am excited to listen to the rest of the album. That film featured some truly fabulous music, and probably taught quite a few people that Nirvana did not write "In the Pines". =)

I was hooked on A&M the first time I heard "Je Pense a Toi." It reminded me of really good, raw Louisiana French Cajun music. Check it out for yourself :)

I will not dissuade you from purchasing every CD ever recorded by Amadou et Mariam since there aren't many to begin with and all are fantastic, offering a newly discovered nuance with each listen. Despite omission of two of my other all time favorite A et M tunes - C'est La Vie and Dogons - this is a worthy sampling. The inclusion of Fantani, a great trans-global rock song if there ever was one, gives me the impression that the lucky compilers of this offering knew what they were doing when stringing together 13 great examples of the couple from Mali. Get it now and enjoy forever!
love it

"The Best of Amadou & Mariam" is a musical feat. It accomplishes emotion, groove, and bluesy-soul - even though I don't understand the lyrics.
From the Marley-esque "A radio mogo" to the soulful and reaching "Walide", the tunes on this album are an excellent addition to any music library. Listen in! You'll love it!

Amadou & Mariam's newest CD release is a compilation from 3 previous releases (primarily) and a GREAT value. Check out the songs Je Pense a Toi, A radio mogo and Mouna. While there is no Mblax music here, Amadou & Mariam create their own musical style(s) mixing blues, rock, and roots reggae. Sometimes acoustic and sometimes electric but if you listen you will find that even though Amadou & Mariam cannot see (blind) they can sing and play. If you like this CD check out Ismael Lo, Oliver Mtukuzi or Pape & Cheikh. For Mblax see Youssou N'Dour.
I believe the Genre is called Mbalax.. this music rocks!
