Rojo at his melodic best

I bought my first Rojo album in the mid 80s. It was a cassette tape of his brilliant album, “Nocturnal Afternoon.” I listened to it all the way to Snoqualmie Pass and back on a spring ski trip and I’ve been a Rojo fan ever since. That album will probably always be my favorite, but his new work shows his continued growth as an artist. I loved it on the first listen.
Solo piano is often relegated to background music—and it works very well for that—but if that’s all you do with this album, well, you’re missing something special. My recommendation is to wait until the kids are in bed, pour a glass of dry red wine, put on the headphones and allow Joseph Rojo to carry you away.
