With Support from Sean Carey, Graham Robinson, John Mooney, Eric Bolivar, Mickey Raphael and Raymond Webber it is obvious Theses cats have the Swampy Funk to live up to their name! Reminiscent of Little Feat or The Band there is a contagious twitch That grabs your behind from the start and doesn't let up ... Forcing You To Dance! Give it a Listen. If They dont move your behind, Listen Again!?!

As a long-time fan, I'd like to first offer a genre, but I find this task too difficult. You might hear a little bounce, Dr. John, Little Feat, or classic jam band. For certain, this album takes you to the Bayou. You'll be dancing around the house to "Change my Ways" and you might imagine you smell crayfish an okra nearby. The sweet, descending mandolin on "Miss what I Got" might bring a little tear to your eye. The piano licks and sweet change ups in "Prodigal Son" have caused the most discerning guests at my home to ask for more. So. I gotta say. Buy this album. Then get the other three. Then, when you see HISB at a local, live venue, you'll be thankin me.
Hard Work Pays Off

Cane Sugar is clearly the result of a band working incredibly hard on paying their dues through touring. As with most studio albums, bands known for extended jams hold back in order to package the song as a foundation for evolution over time. The Honey Island Swamp Band has clearly done that with Cane Sugar. If you see these guys live, you will likely hear many of the songs such as One Shot, Cane Sugar or Change My Ways extended with multiple mind-blowing jams from Chris Mule (guitar), Trevor Brooks (keys/B3) or Aaron Wilkinson (mandolin/harmonica/guitar). Reliable and funky rhythm provided by Garland Paul (drums) and Sam Price (bass) makes most of these songs boogie-worthy. This band has a unique sound that some say is reminiscent of The Band or Little Feat. I say no way. They are clearly influenced by those great bands, but they have a sound of their own. The bottom line is that this album is another great step for the HISB on their journey to establish themselves as the next great band to come out of New Orleans. Buy this album and then go see live music.
Music as it was meant to be.

This is a true New Orleans experience. From the fog horns blowin to the crowded bars, you really get the vibe of all that NOLA has to offer in the music of Honey Island Swamp Band. I highly recommend seeing the band live as well. Great show!
