  • Music with integrity

BPF has become one of my favorite bands. There are few bands active today that have quite as much integrity as these guys do. And they've got miles of it. This is real and raw music. They always stay true to their essence and don't sell out. You get a big sound, but somehow not overdone/overproduced. You won't hear any fake sounds on this or any of their albums. No drum machines - no synths. BPF don't need 'em. You don't when you have this much talent. Just real, swampy and sensual rock blasting your ears off on every single album. And somehow they get it done with just 2 guys - i can't still can't believe it. They get a whole lot done with a little. I've always felt like BPF was the music version of decadent chocolate cake. It's so indulgent to play their tunes and allow yourself to drown in the amazing muscular guitar and swampy lyrics/vocals. I've got my regular music, but when i want to treat myself, i put on tunes like Lay Low or Beelzebub. It's just too good - just like chocolate cake is to a person with a sweet tooth. They've got an aggressive approach that often makes for great workout music. At times they almost seem like they're about to lose control/too noisy and get cacaphonous, but they always manage to pull it back before that happens. Big Beat is unbelievably solid with a very high average per-song star rating. It's largely made up of 4 and 5 star songs. Even the weakest song, Bombs and Bruises, is still a very strong 3 star song. And the crazy thing is, they only get better from here if you can believe it. Their swampier/bluesy songs are the stronger tracks with nearly all of them being the 4 and 5 star songs. The more straight-up rock songs tend to be the 3 star songs. There's three 5 star songs (Beelzebub, Lay Low and Drop the Needle), four 4 star songs and four 3 star songs. Nothing weaker and no throwaways.
