This is a CD of virtuoso compositions and performances that will knock your socks off. Bonde's works (all pieces on the CD are composed by Bonde) are full of surprises with tonal, rhythmic, and harmonic twists and turns to engage the ear, mind, and emotions. Bonde's piano playing is simply breathtaking throughout. I found the symphonic pieces particularly sophisticated, beautifully scored and performed by an excellent orchestra (from Monrovia!) that was unknown to me. The bassoon cadenza (track 9) is worth getting the CD all on its own, and Mara's vocals are truly extraordinary. She has a beautiful voice with the fullness and confidence that reflects her classical training plus the flexibility and subtlety of expression associated with jazz/pop vocals. Thanks to Navona Records for capturing these extraordinary compositions and performances. Write on, Allen Bonde.

This CD is literally packed with beautiful music from beginning to end. The purely instrumental works range from the ruminative to the boisterous, and engage the ear from the first downbeat. As a singer, I gravitated to the vocal selections on the CD, and voice and music are perfectly matched on each song. I found myself listening to the haunting "You Were the One" over and over again. The settings of Shakespeare songs are similarly enchanting, with some real surprises throughout. This recording is a compilation of top-notch work all around. Congratulations to the composer and performers on a wonderful accomplishment.
