  • Empty compared to last album

Raw talent and emotion would be how I would characterize SGD's last album. This one on the other hand sounds empty, generic and weak. Disappointing...

I can't tell you how much I loved Love Gone Mad. Within weeks it was one of my favorite albums ever. I am a musician, a critique of music, and a consumer of as much music as I can afford. Trust me when I say that Stars Go Dim is amazing, I think they just got confused when making this album. This album sounds more generic, less up-beat, and honestly just not any good. Between Here and Now shows no promise of great things, and doesn't even sound real. I mean, the drums, guitar, and bass all sound like processed crap run through a computer too many times, while the only the left coming through that sounds like it is supposed to is the vocal track. Not only is this album not good because it left the sound from Love Gone Mad, but they failed to achieve a good sound that came close to the one they attempted to change to. Even if I were a fan of this kind of music, I wouldn't like this album. It's… bad. Now don't get me wrong. I preach constantly how a band needs to change their sound between albums every single time or it gets boring. So bravo, SGD, for taking a risk and attempting to do the right thing. The only problem is you chose a sound that will appeal to a few, but not the masses. I would strongly suggest looking back at Love Gone Mad, then figuring out where it went wrong with Between Here and Now, then make a third album that kicks butt. Seriously, I love you guys, but you are going to have to do better than this. I'm still a fan, and I am rooting for you.

I was a huge huge fan of SGD, but this is NOTHING like their last album (Love Gone Mad), which was pure talent and original. Between Here and Now is terribly unoriginal. With the exception of "Hesitate," this album lacks in comparison to Love Gone Mad. If you like generic, poppy crap, get the album, otherwise, steer clear.
