I could never rate the The Trews anything less than this. Since I became aware of them via "No Time For Later", I've loved the band and music, as well as seeing them twice in concert (once in a small venue in Detroit in a great set). All the preceding records are excellent, and this was my number one anticipated record for this year. But, I'm sad to say, this doesn't do it for me. I won't be critical, maybe for others this record is good, but for me it misses on what makes The Trews one of my favorite bands- the hooks most of all, and the 70's inspired yet modern rock sound that they were one of the few bands doing really well. This isn't a "oh no, they are moving away from the harder rock sound of the last record" review, I love a wide variety of music (for example, sharing a thing for Jason Isbell with the band), and I really liked their acoustic live record, but definitely I must admit that I miss some of that harder sound. But when it comes down to it, what is missing most for me are the hooks from the last record, and some of the passion that was communicated within them. Sorry guys.
