Subatomic's Bloodstep remix is crazy! Can't wait to hear this roll over closing credits on True Blood.
  • Future-looking! "breaking serious ground in Jamaican music"

Never heard anything like it. An MTV article on the release said the album is "putting the dub in dubstep" and "breaking serious ground in Jamaican music" but it's just as well breaking serious ground in all the electronic genres that draw so massively on dub and reggae, but seldom ever lead to collaborations with a top ranking Jamaican artist like Elephant Man. The attention to detail is top notch and with all these mixes, there are nuff sureshots for the next decade of Halloween parties. On the serious tip, we all know Elephant Man is crowd pleaser in the dance, but it's nice to hear him switch up and address real burning social issues and corrupt leaders at a time when not just JA, but the whole world is really getting sucked dry by these types of vampires! It's great to see labels like People's Records from JA teaming up with Subatomic Sound in NYC to make this kind of forward thinking music possible. Subatomic Sound recently put out excellent releases with heavyweights like Anthony B, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Jahdan Blakkamoore so you know the reggae element represented properly and isn't just a mashup, cut & paste gimmick. At the same time, they involve young future minded bass culture producers and non-reggae artists like the late Ari Up of the Slits and filmmaker David Lynch, so it winds up being something different and fresh without abandoning the roots.

Sometimes cross fertilization creates a banal new species. Other times, amazing mutagens spur evolution. This cross of dub, electronics, hip hop, Afro beat takes us an a cosmic beagle ride with the new Darwin of bass and beats. Don't get eaten. Climb the food chain now.
