I get the pleasure of being the first to write a review here for 2 very solid brothers & co-laborers in Christ. Before I even get into the album, I just want to personally vouch for these guys. These guys don't just talk about it (The Christian life and walk), they live it, which elevates the album even more, because you know they are not just rhyming words, they are actually communicating what they live & believe. This album "Theology of Zeal" is a gem and one of the best Freshman debuts I've heard in quite some time. Louie (Louie P) & Dante (Kerusso) do something that should be done (yet rarely is) by all Christian artists, which is point the listener to CHRIST instead of themselves. The album's first song echoes this sentiment on the hook which says in part ... "It aint about me yall it aint about him (him being Kerusso), it's all about the One who died for all of our sins!" Ahh, how refreshing to not hear self glorifying, self exalting lyrics! Another great thing about this album is that it's very easy listening-meaning you can just hit play and sit and be edified with very catchy hooks and clever lyricism. Both artists bring their own unique flavor to it-listen as Louie P (from the Bay-& also a mechanic) cleverly interweaves both the Bay style and lyrics having to do with him being a mechanic (like what I think is his best line in the song "Empty" ["Back in '02 I was married to the rap game/in love with money like to gamble like a crap game/had all the "hunnies" I was puttin down my mac game/they call me "the one" take the "P" out my last name [last name is Puno]); and Kerusso-who uses very witty metaphors in every song that back up his points very well ("...Don't question the manner/Church packed "Full House" like Stephanie Tanner [Jesus Freak]/ Satan tries to twist your head up like some dreadlocks/But Jesus said He'll lift the curse up off you like the Red Sox...[Run Boy] "But my Lord Jesus Christ got hooked to Crosses/got no time for the world like Broken watches [Snake in the Grass]). Again, the album is full of little gems like this from both of these guys. (Also, make sure you listen to each song fully, as you can hear the boys having fun in the studio) The one thing that got me upset about this (in a good way) is that it's too short...but that may be a good thing, because it definitely leaves you thirsting for more. These guys are just gettin started and I know they have many more songs and albums left in them. Cop this album. (My 3 favorites are "Snake in the Grass", "Jesus Freak" & "Empty") -Christion (*my apologies if some of the lyrics were wrong-but I know they were pretty close)
